10 Things to Let Go to Make Rooms for Self-Improvement

In life, we have many ambitious desires which are achievable and we persevere stoically to achieve them. We usually have a long wish list such as building a wonderful family, have a supportive lover, a big house, to be a rich billionaire, trips to overseas and etc. Sometimes, things do not come towards our expectation and it feels like the world has turned upside down. I've recently read an meaningful article that we have too many things that we need, want or desire, but we could never make room to own the rest without letting go some things that we shall eliminate. I hope to give myself a birthday gift this year by letting go these 10 things for a healthier, happier and more successful life.

Clear the negative things to make space for things that're worth holding onto.

10 things that cause pain, suffer, unhappiness should be let go to make life less complicated and make rooms for happiness and self-improvement.

1. Prioritize others' thoughts/ opinions over your own self

We spend too much time worrying and thinking about others' thought and opinions or craving for others' attention. We often being influenced by people that we care of and some of them would like to change us to become whom they wish we are. We take the comments, critics, opinions or others more serious than our own inner voice. A change of better self is for our own, not to impress others. Also, we used to think of ways to please or impress others, yet we forget that the true happiness is created by us, not depends on the others' approval/ thought. We shall not forget that the price tag (value) of ourselves depends on how we create for our own. A quote I like very much," Don't make somebody a priority if they only make you as an option".

The purpose of life is to please our own selves and create own "price tag".

2. Grudges

Time and tides awaits for no men, life is short to be spent for grudges. There's often sound advice from surrounding people that we should forgive the wrongdoings and the enemies. Some people do not deserve the forgiveness, however the decision to make a closure for nursing the bitterness is still on our own hands. If we keep overwhelmed with the thought of condoning the enemies, I think it's easier to let go the grudges although struggles happen during this process.

Don't live in the silly drama.

3. The ideal belief of "forever"

When we hold onto some things, we used to have the belief of owning them forever. Neither richness, health, happiness, time, luck, opportunities nor love, none will be there forever. Pretty often, we tend to forget that things are change over the time. In fact, life is full of dramatically changes and almost everything is temporary. Just like there's often sunshine after the thunderstorm. Similarly, the same goes to the downside of life, nothing is as painful as staying stuck somewhere you do not belong. The ideal belief of things will stay forever should be let go, I often remind myself to hold onto the present and appreciate the people who stay around me now.

Live in present and appreciate the current moment.

4. Self-defeating

Psychologically interpretation of self-defeating is a self-protection method after being hurt or when face with difficulties. As the sayings from Eckhart Tolle "The mind is a superb instrument if used rightly. Used wrongly, however, it becomes very destructive.”,self-defeating could prevent us to face the realities stoically. Problem exists and will not lose no matter how much self-defeating talk/ thought are sounded nicer. It's bona fide to say that it's more realistic to acknowledge and admit the weak part of ourselves, pick up the pieces of broken self, re-compile and stand up after the fall.

Storing too much negative things, there's no room for happiness.

You may lose something good, but you could gain better in the future.

5. Procrastination/ lackadaisical attititude

Procrastination is the worst habit I want to let go as the action towards the goals always being delayed. A trainer once told me that the more days you procrastinate, the more days you delay being the one you want to be. This relates to my goal of achieving 50kg weight and it seems so hard to achieve as I am the procrastinator.

Don't take another day of blessings for granted, make use of it!

6. Toxic people

As the word "toxic" sounds, these circle of people which brings negative thought, hatred or uncomfortable feeling, it's best to detached from these kind of people. It's a norm where we used to have these toxic people around us, either in workplace, friend's circle, neighborhood, relatives and etc. There's a book worth reading i.e. " Toxic People: 10 Ways Of Dealing With People Who Make Your Life Miserable" written by Dr. Lilian Glass, with 10 proven techniques for successfully dealing with them, including: Tension-Blowout, Unplugging, Direct Confrontation, Humor, Giving Them Love and Kindness,Mirroring and other techniques. Well, a simple way for us to let go of these toxic people for a simpler life is unplug.

People come into our lives to serve some sorts of purpose, as blessings, as lesson, as a seasonal "Santa Claus" .
Some come into our lives to teach us how to let go.

7.  Setting High Expectations

Have you ever find yourself suffering from the expectations that you set for your own self? The expectations you set have plagued your life, causing sorrow, disappointment, frustration, forlorn and etc. We used to persistently maintaining the expectation even we have clearly understood that these expectations are unrealistic. Also, we usually repeat the same mistakes over time i.e expecting too much from the ones we care. Somehow, I noticed that I used to bewildered by my own expectations, consequently losing confidence and positive mindset whenever the expectation goes against the life-flow.  My dad; a wise man's words "Be in the moment of choices, then value and discover the opportunities rather than trap in the squares of expectations that you have set for yourself.".  On the side note, do we make S.M.A.R.T (Acronym for  Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Timely) expectations?  Back off to protect ourselves if the expectation (goal) is unattainable.

"Expectation is the root of all heartache"~ William Shakespeare

8. Waiting

Good things don't come towards yourself. You have to seek for it rather than wait for it to happen. Same goes to opportunities and pursuit of happiness. Although there are articles mentioning that good things are worth waiting for, however the recent tragedies of MH370, MH17 and unexpected accidents have changed my mind. We do not what will happen during the next second, why should we spend time to wait for something that might not happen. Rather than waiting, it's advisable to live in the present, utilize every seconds, minutes and hours now for improving own self or for the important ones such as family and those we love and care.

Always be prepared to reach for the stars!

9. Unnecessary Insecurity

Maslow's hierarchy of needs has portrayed the fundamental needs ranged from physiological needs, safety needs, love and belonging, esteem and self-actualization. With basic needs of food, shelter and clothing are relatively satisfied, we will prioritize on safety needs such as personal safety, job security, health security and etc. Unnecessary insecurity often come from our own judgment, own doubts over ourselves, guessing games and silly drama we created in brain. The consequences of unnecessary insecurity often jeopardize relationships and detrimental to our health. I personally agree that if there's something that causes insecurity constantly, perhaps it's not belonged to you.

Have faith and be positive!

10. Negative Comparisons/ Judgment

One of the most self-blinding and defeating habits that many of us have is the tendency to compare ourselves to others. During young age, the people surrounding used to say" X has better results than you", " your height is lower than Y" , " Z enters a better school than yours" and etc. When age grows, I've the tendency of comparing myself with others via these metrics such as job function, income level, job title and etc. Sometimes, I feel proud of myself for doing better, yet these kind of comparisons used to jeopardize the self-esteem, providing much more fear that " I did not perform better that I thought that I could be".  During the recent training I attended, the trainer had taught us to transform the comparison process to self-evaluation process by learning and taking up the other person's qualities, strength and talents. The self-evaluation process could help reducing jealousy and learn to admit own weaknesses while acknowledging others' accomplishments.

Learn to accept imperfections.

There's always a light shining in the darkness.

We confine by the walls we build ourselves,
let's step out from comfort zone
to grow, to be happier, to free ourselves from negativity, to be successful.

4 month holidays

Read back facebook comments then only I noticed the special date 0520..Well, I think that might be a special night yumcha session that I never try before in my life. Today,I listed down a memo about what I would like to improve during this long holidays. First, I will need to learn some soft skills including how to utilize photoshop, sony vegas studio, adobe aftereffects software; and enhance my speaking skills. (someone introduced me a job i.e. surveyor..and I am still unsure should I go for this job)..

Secondly, I am thinking of enhancing my self-confidence and maturity. Uhh.. I just found that I can't control well my emotion where I will just be freaked out of unexpected things. Found a long list of websites that teaching how one's can enhance the maturity:

I like the way it teaches..Yea, I am just myself.. I can't act mature, maturity depends on experience.

Thirdly,I need to learn some sports.. Cycling vs swimming.. I am gonna take the latter one first. =) I am so eager to go to beach, yet the only activity I can do there is just looking at the scene and collect the seashells. Hoping that I can swim next time. At Sabah beach or the upcoming Phuket Island?

I am not perfect, neither u are..
But I am willing to improve myself..
To be a better person..

Forthly, I have broke my promise to join the japanese club and pursue second level of Japanese Language. Now, I think of utilizing the 4 months to have profound understanding in this langauage again.

..........................................................................................................................................
The previous semester result had been released and I am satisfied with the overall results except for Production and Operation Management. I know I can do better in the final paper, yet unexpectedly I made so many silly mistakes. Huh. Bad~ I shall have quoted " no pain, no gain".. I gained better results this time..

The recent case made me understanding that I should not forget what I had once, appreciate what I couldn't own, do not give up which I think it is belonged to, and learn from the mistakes I have ever made.

- will not be around for a week++.. for Medan Outreach Programme..-
- I'm somehow looking for a place that I can relax..Huh-

Motivation

When I woke up this morning
lying in bed,I asked myself:
What are some of the secrets of success in life?
I found the answer right there, in my very room.

** The Fan said:
Be Cool
** The Roof said:
Aim High
** The Window said:
See The World
** The Cook said:
Every minute is precious
** The Mirror Said:
Reflect before you act
** The Calendar Said:
Be Up To Date
** The Door said:
Push hard for your Goal

Carry a Heart that Never Hates.
Carry a Smile that Never Fades.
Carry a Touch that Never Hurts.
HAVE A PURPOSEFUL DAY!

being understanding

Well, everyone of us is created with different attitudes, personalities, and etc. Sometimes,we get frustrated, down, depressed that why people don't understand us, but we couldn't blame them as not everyone could put themselves in our shoes. Some people believe that you have to experience what i experience in order to understand how they feel and not by just the phrase "I understand how you feel.." or " it will be the past soon, you will get over it". Sometimes, i feel people are so selfish that they only think about themselves but not the feelings of others. I read from an recent article, perhaps if i put it in a nicer way, maybe they are just not understanding enough and they can't put themselves in your shoes.

Well, I am not a perfect person who always fail in managing my emotions, but at least I am going to try my best to be understanding enough. ^^..( Hopefully I will reduce my question of asking ' Why can't you understand me?'). After all, I just felt funny after I asked that, as the answers from others might be" why should I understand you?!"... SILLY ME..

Nah, I am trying to improve myself to be a better person. A person who aged up to 21 right now is supposed to have maturity to handle stress and emotions well.. Hmm, hopefully I can improve in this.

H.I.A.T.U.S .. Hiatus

Recently edited the picture above with different effects, somehow looking at it, I felt calm..(I don't know why..)
There are some interesting and meaningful phrases I read from Facebook :

Anyway, calvin, if you read my blog, i wish to tell you that let's just entail forgiving the person. Perhaps we shall cheer for knowing the truth earlier although we hate accepting all that had happened, take care..We experience a loss or betrayal and are filled with hurt and anger. We blame the person who wronged us as the cause of our pain. At this point, we're not considering that we have a choice about how to respond. We're just feeling wounded by the offense.

The aids you all gave, the trust you all have in me, the supports you all gave...

Thank you..
I will be fine and learn to be tough..

o(︶︿︶)oo(︶︿︶)oo(︶︿︶)o

Homesick!!I am counting down the dates to go back K.L. I 'm missing home baked mooncakes very much..Hmm..can't wait to watch the korean dramas that will be brought back by en..

Currently, I was very busy with the assignments and focus back on my neglected studies. Hmm..it would be a tough nut to crack to follow back as lacking of learning materials. Hmm..perhaps my gang were over-relaxed last week as we hanged out to BP Mall and carrefour..

Kinda sad of the friendship that goes sour and bitter after arising problems since last sem and this sem. Hmm.. I guessed it might be better to wear a mask rather than speaking too straightforward next time. Anyway, after a cozy chat among us, we set up a plan where each of us analyze each shortcomings and help each other to improve oneself. I'm a realist and not afraid of admitting my mistakes yet I might need people to point it out. Girls, let's improve ourselves...

Dedicated to Si En, a friend is someone who knows the song in your heart, and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the words...A word of "sorry" might be hard to be said out, yet it's worth to be said to her whom you treated as your best friend. take care...=) see you in September..chill

The imcompleted mission

Due to the unnoticed cancelled class, the whole gang had been gone to the main library to surf the Internet to rush up the assignment while I took the chance to write a journal. Hmm..I wondered when will my technical writing lecturer would like us to send her the journals. Well, I had been looking forward for the day that my missions to be completed...Nah..the missions are the followings:

Every girls hopes to being charming, gorgeous, pretty and SLIM! Nah...I just don't understand why I eat less,yet...T.T Perhaps I shall go for jogging more often already. Recently, my gang were established a goal i.e. body-shaping aligning with the thought of going to the prom night. It may sound ridiculous or funny to guys but do any girls wish for being criticized over their body shapes? No right?

Isn't the model looked gorgeous?

Let's see what will girls to achieve this goal...By eating body-shaping pills, by dieting, by jogging or yoga, by applying body-shaping cream and etcetera..I wondered which's the most effective way to get efficacy?Let's hope my goal will be established then.

The second goal of mine might be trying my best to love Manufacturing subject( Why girls need to know welding, filing and operating machines?!!!), Business Law and Management of Technology. Obviously, I lack of enthusiasm in studying these subjects which ain't my cup of tea. Hmm..I gotta try my best to participate in class discussion as well. Being proactive rather than being passive, yet I am kind of coward to speak up my opinions over the case studies. What the MOT lecturer said had beared in my mind i.e. a university student should act and think like a university student, being punctual, proactive and able to contribute ideas...

Hmm..nasi lemak, roast pork, wan ton mee, sambal, tom yam prawns and etcetera! Hmm..no wonder I will gain weight during holidays...Mom's cook is still de best!=)

Missions uncompleted during holidays included failing to finish up some chapters of books that i brought back, only managed to finish reading some Japanese Language, and the main mission during the holidays was failed to be reached out to and the results of it was even worse.Hmm..I'm gonna to try my best to reach my targets!woohoo..challenging life!haha..

Before going to bed, I had tried to make up some fun with the art (with the aid of photo editor as well..)..

Atychiphobia

Atychiphobia

Recently, I found an article that was about a list of phobias which had caught my interest.Atychiphobia means the fear of failure.I had to admit that I dislike traumatic events, embarrassment and failures! The failures in life experiences decreased my confidence, my self-esteem and the fear of failing to succeed had caused me subconsciously undermining my efforts to continue trying sometimes.

Nah, I always wanna to be a successful lady! An all-rounder! Of course, it might seem to be ridiculous as nobody can be perfect, right? Hmm.. Is Bill Gates the perfect one?!Throughout my life, I faced the failures in achieving my targets for several times. In life,we have many ambitious desires which are achieveable, just that we have to persevere stoically to achive our goals. Most of the time I failed were not because of setting a goal which was not within my reach, but was due to the atychiphobia and the lack of perseverance in the process of striving for reaching the stars.

Anyway, there's something I learned from my course subject- Marketing in which the goal we set has to be:

Specific
Measureable
Attainable
Realistic
Timely

Today,my final results were released. When I was informed by Hui En, I was praying hard for achieving my target pointer. Honestly, I did smell the failure again after my economy failed to achieve at least A- due to my own mistake I made in the final. This time, with the lack of 0.02, I failed to achieve my goal again. Ouch! My heart was shattered again!

Last sem( lack of 0.01), This sem( lack of 0.02)...Oh, I hope it will not be continuosly having the deficiency again.. Please change the word "lack" to be " surplus/abundance..."

Even though I had failed to achieve the target pointer again, but my results did improve. I am glad that the efforts of mine had paid with the sweet smell of success( an increase of my overall pointers)...Hopefully, I could maintain my academic performance in order to achieve my goal in the 4 year-university life>> 1st Degree honor!

My goal that I had set for next sem: achieve the pointer of 3.85++..I am not going to be defeated by atychiphobia~~~

May day

Just like the quote goes,"No bird can soar too high if it flies with its own wings", thus, in life, we have to persevere stoically to reach for the stars even though we have many ambitious desires which may be unachievable.

My final results had been released on yesterday except for the co-curricular activity's results. I felt a bit disappointed of my economy results as it did not achieve my targeted marks. (My course mates may complain that I'm perfectionist since I scored quite well in other subjects). Well, My dissatisfactory of my results :I had to blame for my carelessness as I failed to complete my final question as had thought that the duration of the time for the test was 3 hours instead of 2 hours and 30mins. It's a careless mistake that I shouldn't have done. Secondly, I knew I did not do my best in the Human Resource Management Final Test as lack of preparation. Anyway, I had to be proud of myself for having improvement in the results although couldn't achieve my targeted pointer. I am gonna to put my best foot forward in the following sems!!! The pursuit of motivation is in me now.

During this semester break, I have had the enthusiasm to try to start freelance job. Haha..ever since studying Industrial Psychology and Marketing about telecommunicating, freelance-writing job and graphics-design (freelance) had been under my interest nowadays. I felt glad that I had been signed as one of the writers of a team and the project may start in June. I appreciated the opportunity that had been given!..Hopefully I could fulfill the assigned job later.

Kindly reminder for my ownself: Japanese learning process must be continued! No more procrastination! XD..

Evaluation on group assignment...

Evaluation on group assignment...

Nah..I'm reluctantly complained about what I had experienced during the business financial a/c group assignment.3 chinese(including me) and 2 malays were assigned together to do financial statements of a public listed company from Bursa Malaysia and we chose Ajinamoto(M) Bhd. I was infuriated with the attitudes of those particular malays."Sorry, sat and sun. are my family days, i can't come for the discussion", " I'm sick, I can't finish it, sorry"...O_o! They showed no contributions in group assignment, didn't seem to be making any effort to do so!! I don't love the idea that they will just get credit for "doing the assignment "(worth 15% of our final grade).

I lose trusts on these fellows after checking the piece of their works. In horizontal analysis and vertical analysis(The simplest analysis),the -ve value become +ve value and vice versa. With the soft copies of other groups to refer, they just changed the value.Gosh! After all,the chinese have to help finishing and correcting them.1 of the chinese group member had insulted me and Y.Y- our requests to ask her to help out had been rejected thrice and the excuse she gave: " I'm lack of sleep!" Huh.. I had spent 2 hours to sleep in order to help correcting her analysis and finishing the explanation. Eventually,I concluded this group assignment was more likely individual assignment which I had done most of the analysis and explanation.

The underlying cause of such situation happened not the lack of communication among each other, but it's the lack of self-responsibility( those particular 2) and the selfishness of her. From what I had seen from the other groups, well, most likely same kind of situations happened. 1 orchestrated the whole assignment while others just depended on her without offering help.

As a member of the group, we should understand each and group's role, commit to spending time in discussion and working togather on group assignments, take a proactive role in resolving conflicts and etc.
