Herbal Duck Thigh Noodles @ Bidor

When talk about the famous foods at Bidor, most will recommend Pun Chun Restaurant that serves its famous duck thigh noodles. The restaurant is usually packed with crowds and sometimes you may need to wait for more than 30 minutes for seat or foods to be served.

When we drove back to Penang this Saturday, we had decided to drop by Bidor for breakfast. We did not choose to dine at Pun Chun Restaurant; yet dining at a nearby restaurant which also serves duck thigh noodles. Similar to Pun Chun restaurant, Restoran Sin Thean Thean was easily spotted because this corner lot located near Pun Chun restaurant, which was only about 5-10 minutes’ driving journey from Bidor Toll exit. 

The signboard of 驰名源珍鸭腿面 could be seen when we stepped into the restaurant. My siblings and I had ordered duck thigh noodles while parents ordered wanton noodles.

Surprisingly, the duck thigh noodles in a larger portion was served within 5 minutes. The herbal broth was very fragrant and rich with ingredients such as dried longan, wolf berries and of course the bigger duck thigh. The tender duck thigh meat was flavorful with a strong herb taste.I opine that the duck thigh noodles here was more scrumptious than the one I ate at Pun Chun Restaurant.

Well, the short waiting time and good taste of duck thigh noodles will make me returning to visit this stall again in future!

The wanton noodles was not as good as the duck thigh noodles. According to my mom, the noodles were springy, yet the overall taste was not flavorful. She strongly regretted for ordering this plate of wanton noodles.

There were several brands of biscuits available here including Pin Chun's famous Crispy Kampar Chicken Biscuits and caramelized egg fritters.

According to Kiwi, most of the people here work as fishermen who wake up around 3-4am. For the rest of residents here who work as hawker or coffee shops’ owners, they have to wake up early to prepare food. The food quality is highly prioritized as news (regardless bad or good) could be gone viral within few minutes in this small town. As the saying goes' The early bird catches the worm', we were asked to wake up early for delicious breakfast, however, we slept till 9 am plus due to tiredness.

Anyway, local specialties had been tried by us during this serene morning.班台品香咖啡馆 is the place we had our breakfast.You could easily pick your choice of food by seeing the big food menu at the wall.
25 choices of food which made us stunned for seconds when we were asked what to order.

Our choices- french toast; mee rebus (the people called it as 吉灵面）；otak-otak.

Guess how much it costs? It's only RM2.50.

It is delicious, flavorsome and epicurean.

After the breakfast, we went to the fish wholesaler warehouse, but we were unlucky as most fishermen had been gone out to catch fish. We couldn't see much fresh catch since fishermen weren't come back yet. According to Kiwi, the fishermen normally come back during 4pm.

Segari Turtle Sanctuary; Pantai Remis

If you live in West Malaysia, you don't necessarily need to go to Terengganu beach to see turtles. You may visit to Segari Turtle Sanctuary (Pusat Konservasi dan Penerangan Penyu) which is located just a couple of miles from the town of Pantai Remis in the state of Perak. 

It's sight-seeing place in which you could see several types of turtles and obtain information about the turtles that are being bred in the turtle exhibition centre.

The turtle hatchery was not accessible to visitors, perhaps they are afraid of turtle eggs been eaten or stolen. The turtle can hatch about 50 to 100 eggs, however only few eggs could be successfully hatched into baby turtles. There are only very few of those young turtles are survived as they are preyed by crabs, seagulls, and sharks in the sea. Besides that, the worst predators; human are targeting the turtle eggs.

By the way, an interesting fact: Turtle's sex is determined by the ambient temperature during the hatching process. Segari Turtle Sanctuary is worth to be visited. It's not only enhancing our knowledge about turtles but also the importance of conserve these going-to-be extinct reptile.

Tame the taste buds @ Pantai Remis; Perak - Part I

It's always great to have companion of friends to explore foods indulgence. Nah, it's lucky to have a bunch of friends that don't mind getting fat together! *Smirks*

Pantai Remis is a coastal town in Perak, Malaysia and it is situated near Sitiawan. I got to know about this town through my university friend. Honestly speaking, it is larger than my mom's hometown; Kalumpang and have more specialties. So, we headed to Kiwi's hometown after our trip in Ipoh.

There are two rows of shops along the main road in Pantai Remis; Perak. We had great seafood dinner cooked by Kiwi's uncle. Stepping into this coastal town, I felt the warmth from people around. Perhaps these people had grown up together and they knew each other. Please do not be surprised if anyone comes across you and asks if you are from other cities. I could only remember I was directed to the left side of the shoplets. Kiwi's family had been welcomed us with opened arms, treating us a hearty seafood dinner.

The grilled fish with cucumber, onions and tomatoes. The freshness of the fish is worth drooling over!

Mantis prawns which are served in large portion and they are extremely big.

Till now, I have yet to know the name of this fish. 

A whole steamed fish makes a spectacular feast. Drizzling hot dark soy, and garlic over the skin before serving makes the skin delightfully crisp.

The Fried Oysters with Eggs

Million thanks to Kiwi's family who had treated us this hearty meal.The freshness of the fish here are hardly comparable to the ones I have eaten in KL/ Johor. Moreover, the portion of the food here are generously big and cheaper. I can't wait for the morning's local specialties which I will have to fill my stomach tomorrow XD.

Pantai Remis; Perak is definitely worth to be visited!!!

Sight-seeing and Epicurean Tour in Peninsular Malaysia- Sitiawan

In this continuous blog post after Ipoh Cuisines, we had our sight-seeing tour at the latest famous Tua Pek Gong located at Kampung Pasir Panjang Laut, Sitiawan. The statues built to a grand scale (more than 30 feets) facing the sea and I guessed it was related to the Feng Shui that Chinese used to believe in. Apart from that, Tua Pek Gong temple is also famous of its up-kept landscaped garden with rocks, artificial mountains, fish ponds, fountains, statues and etcetera.

The long journey taken from Ipoh to Sitiawan had us rushing towards the washroom once we arrived the temple. Oh well, the painting on the wall itself which indicated genders had made us laughed loudly. The temple is divided to many different segments:

• Temple for prayers
• Food stalls and souvenirs shop
• A big landscapes with many humongous statues facing the sea and lots more.
• Monkey Garden which serves the main purpose of seeing monkeys and mangrove farm.
• Nicely maintained garden with rocks, artificial mountains, fountains, fish ponds and lots of zodiac statues which are suitable for photography session.
