Food Trip @ Batu Pahat (Part 2)

Continuing the previous post with regard to the short getaway to Batu Pahat town to have local delicacies, my friend who is a local here had introduced us to eat bak kut teh at Restoran Mei Hwa Lin; Taman Flora; Batu Pahat. We came late hence the yam rice were not available. However, we were still managed to order bak kut teh and stir fried long beans.

The clay-pot Bak Kut Teh was served with still-bubbling broth. The bak kut teh tasted a bit diluted compared to the one I tasted in Klang. The herbal flavor soup was not strong enough for me, but my friends liked this. Hui En said that I must missing the bak kut teh at Kota Tinggi since I prefer strong herbal savory soup! :) Regardless the taste of the soup, the ingredients (pork ribs, yau-char-kuay, enoki mushroom and mushrooms; etc. ) were generously served.

What made me decided to write down this post was due to this stir fried long beans. I seldom eat long beans as I disliked the taste of it. However, this dish is really succulent as long beans served with very nice aroma. With a handful of fried onions and garlic, the long beans were stir fried with flavourful dried anchovies. I love this dish!

Well, we had our stomach filling up with bak kut teh and the breakfast we had eaten weren't digested fully. Nevertheless, we decided to find a chilling place to have drinks while chatting. We drove around Carrefour, and we found Victorious Cafe; Batu Pahat. We would say that the decoration of the exterior of shop had attracted us to drop by. The exterior of the shop had clearly explained the foods available i.e. crepe cakes, bakery, hi-tea set, dessert and cheese cake. Hmm.. from the look of the exterior design, I guessed the coffee there would be nice too.

Everybody was excited posing with the menu.

We ordered oreo crepe cake, Hokkaido Chocolate crepe cake and green tea crepe cake. If I am given the choice to order again, I will choose Hokkaido Chocolate crepe cake. Chocolate snow ice was one of our choices too. Apart from that, Ser Pei and Sue Fern had ordered chocolate coffee crepe cake and tiramisu crepe cake.

When the mille crepes arrived, we noticed that a saying is true. Every woman has a stomach ready for desserts. Again, we captured the foods before filling them into our stomach.

Me, spotted at Victorious Cafe :)

I was trilled to know have such a decent cafe exists in Batu Pahat with decent crepe cakes! A comfortable environment with delicious crepes making the gathering perfectly. Most of us were delighted of the cafe's opening as it would be the place for gathering or party before we graduated.

Food Trip @ Batu Pahat (Part 1)

As the graduation bell is rung soon, we had organized our gathering and getaways around Batu Pahat more and more frequent compared to previous semesters. Today, we had no classes to attend and the workload of assignments can be kept till weekends to be completed. Hence, we had a short getaway to the town to have food trips!

We opted for kick-start this morning with dim sum at Restoran Fock Yen. There are varieties of dim sum available here and my Batu Pahat friends recommended this to us as the price of dim sums aren't pricey and delicious.

This dim sum restaurant is at Taman Bukit Pasir, originally uploaded by Camemberu.

Once we stepped into this restaurant, we quickly made orders as we were hungry! There were quite many people queuing up at the entrance and up to my surprises, they mainly served steamed dim sum, unlike the dim sum restaurants in my hometown serving both steam and baked dim sum. However, Restoran Fock Yen does serve some baked dim sum like yam cake, spring rolls and baked white carrot cake.

The first round:

5 of us had ordered 2 plates of Steamed Sticky Glutinous Rice With Chicken (糯米鸡, Lo Mai Kai), 2 plates of yam cakes, fried shrimp dumplings with ginger and vinegar; and 1 plate of pan fried turnip cake while waiting for steamed dim sum to be served.

This is the awesome one! We just couldn't get enough of the dumplings!
The second round:

As usually ordered in most dim sum restaurant, we ordered siew mai, bean curd spring rolls and another one is..minced pork, shrimp and mushrooms wrapped in seaweed. Hmm, I would say that the siew mai don't look so pleasant compared to other dim sum restaurant I tried, but I liked the size of it. Big and juicy!

Eventually, we had all dim sum occupied our table. We ordered the Steamed Egg Custard Bun (Lau Sah Bao). The steamed egg custard bun are hot picks over here. The fillings are molten, buttery, yolky sweetness, encased in fluffy white steamed buns. We had added some char siew bun to bring back to our housemates who were still sleeping at home.

The price for these dim sum are affordable, around RM50++.

All in all, thumbs up. But is it “the one”? I'm afraid it's not as I am still prefer dim sum at Kepong Baru. :)

Eat & Treats in Skudai: AnMour Cafe Concept Cafe, Uncle Jang Korean Restaurant & Restoran Old Places

During this semester break, I have followed my pretty buddy to her home for assignment completion, hair-cuts and  yea, for lots several reasons which include food tour at Skudai area. "AnMour Café – A homegrown modest American restaurant concept at Taman Sutera Utama which is famous of their signature GlamBurgers, pasta and steaks. The gigantic patties and large portion is really suitable for people who have humongous appetite like me.

AnMour Cafe is obviously the choice that Johor people love to dine at. By the time we reached there, it was crowded and we had to queue to be seated. After selecting our choices of foods, we were waited to be served patiently. Surprisingly, the waiter came and served a basket of buns with sauce which we did not order. Hui En said that this was the starter and it's FREE OF CHARGE. The buns were served warm in a basket and there were very soft and fluffy. The buns came with black pepper sauce which seemed to mixed with mushroom. Dipping the bun to the sauce as starter while waiting for the foods to be served accompanied with chit-chats were great.

We had ordered mushroom soup which came with buttered garlic breads.
I shall say that this would be the another best mushroom soup I had apart from the one I had in Bel Pasto Italian Restaurant. The portion of  flavorsome Cream of Mushroom Soup with two crispy buttered garlic breads at AnMour Cafe with the price RM5.90 causing me overwhelmed with happiness.

Mussels in garlic butter sauce (RM 8.90)
Luscious mussels in delicious garlic butter sauce! Well, it tasted so cheesy!
Seafood pasta with tomato sauce, big shrimps, mussels, squids and oysters.

The affordable price, large portion of foods with good quality had made me thinking of revisiting AnMour Cafe. This is also one of the reasons I included in my travelogue and foods discovery list.I saw the next table had ordered "Mini Burger Party" which has 4 small burgers with different flavor of meats. Perhaps I shall revisit AnMour Cafe again to try their steak, Mini Burger Party and the cakes.

Uncle Jang Korean Restaurant was our next destination where I got to know her buddies. I seriously did not know why many people praising Uncle Jang Korean Restaurant dish and I had done some survey after eating it. Dak galbi is a popular South Korean dish where marinated chickenare stir-fried with cabbage, sweet potato, scallions, onions and etcetera on a hot plate. The complimentary condiments such as cabbages, kim chi and pickled onions are served as free. Oh yea, each of us were given red apron after we were seated.

So below is the picture of the spicy version of Dak galbi with additional noodles that I had at Uncle Jang Korean Restaurant. Well, I guessed the group of us having the same thought  i.e. why we ordered expensive mamak noodles with more ingredients. The dak galbi was not impressive as much as what I thought of. Furthermore, the condition of the restaurant was too stuffy with no exhaust fan was seen installed. We left the restaurant like smokey pigs. LOL. Overpriced spicy maggi goreng was the only thing in my mind.

After Korean cuisines and Italian cuisines, we shall have some real Chinese cuisines for the dinner. We randomly chose to dine at a restaurant named Restoran Old Places at Nusa Bestari.Restoran Old Places, origins should be from Perak because they have branches in Ipoh, Bercham and Taman Ramai. The scrumptious claypot chicken rice had been ordered since it's the main signature dish.

Claypot chicken rice was served piping hot and the aroma was totally different compared to the previous one (Uncle Jang Korean Restaurant). The portion of the claypot chicken rice was also quite big, with marinated chicken thigh, chinese sausage and salter fish. Overall, claypot chicken rice at Restoran Old Places is the kind of food to have you licking your lips in anticipation.

The charm of claypot chicken rice!!

Restoran Old Places

Last but not least, profusely thank you my dearest buddy who bought me to epicurean tour at Skudai.
If you ask me for the definition of buddy or good friend, I shall say that she's the one who shares good foods with you and gets fat together. LOL

A song that heals the wound

Dear you,
Who’s reading this letter
Where are you and what are you doing now?

For me who’s 15 years old
There are seeds of worries I can’t tell anyone
If it’s a letter addressed to my future self,
Surely I can confide truly to myself
Now, it seems that I’m about to be defeated and cry
For someone who’s seemingly about to disappear
Whose words should I believe in?
This one-and-only heart has been broken so many times
In the midst of this pain, I live the present...

Dear you,
Thank you
I have something to tell the 15-year-old you
If you continue asking what and where you should be going
You’ll be able to see the answer
The rough seas of youth may be tough
But row your boat of dreams on
Towards the shores of tomorrow
Now, please don’t be defeated and please don’t shed a tear
During these times when you’re seemingly about to disappear
Just believe in your own voice

For me as an adult, there are sleepless nights when I’m hurt
But I’m living the bittersweet present
There’s meaning to everything in life
So build your dreams without fear
Keep on believing
Seems like I’m about to be defeated and cry
For someone who’s seemingly about to disappear
Whose words should I believe in?
Please don’t be defeated and please don’t shed a tear
During these times when you’re seemingly about to disappear
Just believe in your own voice

No matter era we’re in
There’s no running away from sorrow
So show your smile, and go on living the present
Go on living the present

Dear you,
Who’s reading this letter
I wish you happiness
