Johor Bahru Food Hunting Trip @ Jaya Jusco Tebrau,Skudai & Legoland

The food-marathon from Kota Tinggi Bak Kut Teh till Kulai was continued with hangout at Jusco Tebrau and Sutera Mall for girls' favorite activities i.e. shopping!

We had dined in Sizzling Stonegrill at night before our movies session. The interior design is like a jungle. Food was served on super-heated natural volcanic rocks in which it is a method of dry-cooking without any added fats or oils. As shown in the menu, we came to taste the difference.

Provided that the ingredients are prepared cleanly and placed gently on the hot grill, the food could be relatively healthy.

The "boss" cooked the meat for the rest of the guys.
Well, cooking the meals yourself seems to be a great gimmick to attract customers.
You can choose to have medium cooked meat or fully cooked beef.

So, this is my choice of grilled chicken skewers as I don't favor beef steak.
At first the grilled meat is soft and tender, however, the meat tends to be hard and almost overcooked.
You can opt for fried rice instead of french fries.
While waiting for the food to be cooked, let's take some photos!
The sizzling tom yam mee hoon which had been ordered by the beauties.
Well, RM8.90 for this large portion of mee hoon with large prawns is considered cheap.

Short review:  Sizzling Stonegrill is definitely not a good choice if you are in rush hours or hungry. A great dining experience as you can be chef for the particular minutes. Notably to mention about the temperature of the volcanic rock is about 400 Celsius, hence do be careful when being chef.

On the next day, we had abalone kuay teow as our breakfast at 永新鲍鱼粿条.Instead of the pork ingredients, this came with fish balls, fish cake and two slices of abalones. I was more satisfied with the side dishes.

Moonlight Cake House is our next destination before we headed to Legoland. Previously Hui En had been brought back few delightful bakeries.

My choice of garlic breads which are soft and tasty
(well-balance of garlic and some butter taste).
Lisy Oreo if not mistaken.

The main course are offered in Moonlight cake house as well:

Creamy lasagna

Short review: One of the best cake house I had ever tried and it worth a thumb up for the good quality of food and nice ambiance. The bakery is much tastier than KL's King's, Berry's and etcetera. Nevertheless the large variety of bakery and cakes made Moonlight Cake House worth visiting.

The final destination of our Johor Bahru Food Hunting Trip ended with a short visit to Legoland. Basically, the main purpose to go to Legoland is to have group photos. Moreover, the Johor Bahru trip is incomplete since the famous spot in Johor Bahru is the newly opened Legoland :)

The ladies.

Kota Tinggi Waterfall & Kulai

The 2nd day of Johor Bahru food-hunting trip

After having the heavenly breakfast @ Kiang Kee Bak Kut Teh, we went to the Kota Tinggi waterfall.

The weather had turned bad as it started to rain cats and dogs when we arrived there. We waited at the abandoned restaurant to wait for the rains to stop. I was seriously doubted did I come to the right place as the one and only one restaurant of this tourist area is closed. How could tourists have some food to eat or drink when they are tired?! From the surrounding, I personally think that this tourist area is lacked of maintenance.

When the droplet of the rains become smaller, we started our journey to go to the waterfall. Otherwise we would have wasted the entrance fees without seeing the waterfall.

Posing at the first bridge
Posed at the second bridge again
The waterfall was still afar from here. The floor was slippery and we had to be slower in taking each step.

As the photo shown, most people stopped at this area and had fun in the waterfall. Some even had their meals right after playing with water.

The cascading water, the beauties and water splashes made the photo perfect :)
The only one of us who really drenched himself in the waterfall

The view of sunlight from waterfall was great! It was like seeing light submerged from dark! Haha
Instead of footprints, we could only left our slippers here... well, just to capture a photo of them at this waterfall!
He ain't had enough fun!
Lastly, I had my photo captured with this nice Kota Tinggi waterfall as well.

Kota Tinggi - Bak Kut Teh @ Kiang Kee Bak Kut Teh

The 2nd day of Johor Bahru food-hunting trip

The 2nd day of Johor Bahru food-hunting trip was continued with the journey heading to Kota Tinggi. During the early morning, we had headed to Kiang Kee Bak Kut Teh; which located at the main road from Kota Tinggi town to Mersing to have our breakfast. We arrived there at 8.30am and the restaurant was already crowded with customers which patronize with locals and Singaporeans! Peir Gen's business friends had already arrived and had booked two tables for us. According to them, Kiang Kee Bak Kut Teh still uses charcoal stoves.

The waft of herbal aroma could be smelled once the bak kut teh was served. The steaming hot bubbles popped out furiously on the herbal soup’s surface. We had eaten the bak kut teh before managing to capture it.The dark gravy of the braised pork trotter was with strong , flavorful herbal. The pork meats were very tender, soft and not too fat.

Nah. being a non-pork' spare parts lover hence I just tried bak kut teh and braised pork trotter mostly. Oh yea, the 'you tiao' was the most necessary appetizer accompanying bak kut teh. By the way, the ' you tiao' was not as crispy as I expected. According to the others, the pepper pork nerve was very tasty as the pork intestines, nerves were chewy and soft.

Overall, the breakfast was very satisfying! If want to point out the difference of bak kut teh of klang and Kota Tinggi, I would say that it will be the soup.

Johor Bahru Food Hunting (Part 4: Bon Odori Event 2012)

Johor Bahru Food Hunting

After having high-tea at Cheelicious, we went to Bon Odori Event which was held at Jaya Jusco Tebrau.
We thought that the event may be cancelled off due to the heavy downpour. Luckily the heavy rain stopped and we had a hard time searching for parking.

The Bon Odori Event had commenced before we reached there. One word to describe the surrounding was CROWDED. We had to hold hands together for not being lost in the crowds. We went to the counter to obtain the fan and bought some coupons for purchasing things.

While passing by some stalls, we had managed to see some practices and Japanese costumes. However, I was confused if all these were Japanese or just Malaysians wearing Japanese costumes.

A large variety of foods were sold during the Bon Odori Event and most are non-Japanese foods.

The Japanese drum performance and Bon Odori Dance commenced around 9.30pm.

Before going back, we managed to take a photo with a cute girl wearing Japanese costume.
