Food Hunting @ Johor Bahru
It was lucky to have local friends at Johor Bahru and it made the food hunting at Johor Bahru became easier. Upon the separation of us after the completion of degree studies, we had several travel plans. Johor Bahru food hunting trip had been one of our plans.
We decided to have Korean cuisine and there were too many choices of restaurants for us i.e. Dong Seoul, Korean Garden Club, Han Korean Restaurant and etcetera. Many Japanese Restaurants could be found around here. My mind is full of SUSHI! Anyhow, we opted to have our meals at
食客 Shik Gaek Korean Family Restaurant at Taman Sutera; Johor Bahru which was highly recommended by 3 of our Johor Bahru friends.
Korean spoon and chopsticks are very long compared to one we (Chinese) used and they are flat. Have you ever thought of why Korean chopsticks are flat instead of round? From online research, it explained that
the Korean Blunt tapered chopsticks to provide more surface area for holding food and for shoveling rice.
We opted for BBQ set for 4 person and added kimchi soup and korean pan cake. The complimentary side dishes were served quickly once we made our orders. The side dishes were refillable! That was cool!
Green tea were served afterwards.
Had you spotted the marinated pork ribs? Well, the best thing dining here would be food cooked in front of us and what we needed to do was waiting to eat!

While waiting for our food to be grilled, we had some self-portraits with nice side dishes that we liked the most. I picked the potatoes! |
Marinated chicken was ready to be cooked as soon as the pork ribs were cooked.
Korean Stone Rice or Bibimbap was served as a bowl of warm white rice topped with carrot slices and vegetables, an raw egg and chili pepper paste. The waitress stirred the ingredients together thoroughly in front of us and that was how it looked like after mixing everything. |
Korean pan cake, it's much more like fried egg for me. |
Kimchi Soup |
Grilled chickens were ready to serve! |
Nice aroma of the chicken meat had all of us testing it desperately. |
The slices of pork were soon to be served while we were still munched the chicken meats. |
Wei Lin and I had wrapped the meats with vegetables. Tasty and yea, nutritious. |
As the photo shown above, do not be greedy in wrapping too many meats with vegetables. Haha. |
Overall, the korean cuisine are very succulent. The environment of the restaurant is clean and pleasant, suitable for friends' gathering. The waitresses were quite attentive as they kept helping us to refill our side dishes. A pleasant experience for most of us and we would be delighted to pay the 2nd visit again. Last but not least, some group photos captured before we headed to Sutera Mall.
